Dichloromethane, also known as DCM or methylene chloride, is a geminal organic compound with the chemical formula CH2Cl2. It is a colourless, volatile liquid with a moderately sweet aroma and is widely used as a solvent. Although not miscible with water, it is polar and is miscible with many organic solvents.

  • Used as a solvent in liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry (LCMS) applications.

  • Suitable for analytical separations of nonpolar and polar compounds due to its low polarity and low UV cut-off.

  • Good solvent for dissolving a wide range of organic compounds, including lipids, steroids, and other small molecules.

  • Highly purified and free of impurities that may interfere with LCMS analyses.

  • Available in different grades, including HPLC grade and LCMS grade, each with different levels of purity and suitability for different applications.

  • Compatible with various LCMS instruments and an important reagent in many LCMS protocols.

  • Widely used as a solvent in other organic chemistry applications due to its high purity and low boiling point.

  • Used as a solvent for recrystallization and extraction of organic compounds.

  • Used as a degreasing agent and paint stripper in industrial applications.

  • Also used as a blowing agent in the production of polyurethane foams.
