A strong disinfectant Glutaraldehyde is a strong disinfectant. It reliably kills bacteria, viruses and fungi. It is easily biodegradable and has only a slight corrosive effect on the cooling circuit. Disadvantage: It can cause skin irritation and must therefore be used carefully.
Effective against microorganisms The biocidal effect of glutaraldehyde is based on its alkylation of sulphydryl, hydroxyl, carboxyl and amino groups of microorganisms, which alters RNA, DNA and protein synthesis. In short: It works with denaturation of proteins. Glutardialdehyde is less toxic to aquatic organisms compared to the other biocides. The application concentration is correspondingly higher.
Drop Tests: Easy to use Using the drop test is easy: add a reagent to the water sample to indicate the presence of glutaraldehyde by a colour change. Another reagent ensures that the colour disappears again - the number of drops required for this provides information about the concentration of glutaraldehyde.
