What is Tin (II) chloride dihydrate? Also known as stannous chloride dihydrate, it is a chemical compound with the formula SnCl₂·2H₂O. It is a white, crystalline solid that is used as a reducing agent, a sensitising agent in metalising, and in various industrial and laboratory applications. It is soluble in ethanol and a little water, but tends to hydrolyse in excess water.
Consistent Quality: We provide only high-quality Tin (II) chloride dihydrate, ensuring reliable and consistent performance for all applications.
Shipped from Manchester, UK Facility: Sourced and packaged in non-toxic, chemical-resistant containers to ensure safe handling and preserve product quality during transport.
Tin Plating
A solution of tin(II) chloride containing a little hydrochloric acid is used for the tin-plating of steel, in order to make tin cans. An electric potential is applied, and tin metal is formed at the cathode via electrolysis.
Dyes and Textiles
Used as a mordant in textile dyeing because it gives brighter colours with some dyes e.g. cochineal. This mordant has also been used alone to increase the weight of silk.
Plastic Production
It is used as a catalyst in the production of the plastic polylactic acid (PLA).
