What is the Perls Van Gieson Stain Kit? This Stain Kit demonstrates ferric iron, collagen and connective tissue in sections. Treatment with an acid ferrocyanide solution will result in the unmasking of ferric iron in the form or hydroxide, Fe(OH)3, by dilute hydrochloric acid. The ferric iron then reacts with a dilute potassium ferocyanide solution to produce an insoluble blue compound, ferric ferocyanide (Prussian Blue). Collagen and connective tissue will also be demonstrated by the Van Gieson stain.
