What is Distilled Water? Distilled Water has been purified through the process of distillation, where water is boiled to produce steam and then condensed back into liquid form, leaving impurities, minerals, and contaminants behind. This process ensures that the water is free from dissolved solids, chemicals, and microorganisms, making it ideal for use in sensitive applications
High-Quality Formulation: Atom Scientific's manufacturing process begins with pre-treatment through carbon filters, followed by softening with a water softener. Next, our water is pre-purified via a reverse osmosis system before being distilled in glass. To further enhance its purity, our distilled water is treated with UV ultraviolet high intensity light and filtered through a 0.2 micron microbial particulate system. Finally, our water is polished to ensure it meets our stringent quality standards.
No Additives: Our system constantly checks the quality of our water, and is supported by a variety of daily manual checks on specific elements. You can be assured that our distilled water is of the highest quality and purity.
Manufactured in the UK: Our Distilled Water is manufactured and bottled using non-toxic, chemical resistant bottles, providing reliable and trusted quality to our customers
Frequent Uses
Chemical Reactions and Synthesis
For analytical and organic chemistry labs, distilled water acts as a controlled, non-reactive solvent, reducing the likelihood of unwanted side reactions due to impurities.
Calibration Standards
Distilled Water serves as a reference or solvent when calibrating equipment such as spectrophotometers, pH meters, and other analytical devices, ensuring precision.
Glassware Cleaning
Laboratories use Distilled Water for the final rinse of glassware, as it removes any residual ions or impurities that could affect subsequent experiments.
Microbiology and Cell Culture
In microbiology, distilled water is used in the preparation of media and buffers. Its lack of contaminants is crucial in maintaining sterile conditions and avoiding the introduction of unwanted microorganisms or ions into cell cultures.
Reagent Preparation
Distilled Water is frequently used to prepare reagents, solutions, and diluents, providing a pure medium that minimises unwanted reactions and contaminants in chemical and biological experiments.
FAQ
Is Deionised Water the same as Distilled Water?
Deionised and Distilled Water differ in purification methods. Distilled water is purified through boiling and condensation, removing minerals, salts, and microorganisms, resulting in higher purity. Deionised Water, purified through ion exchange, removes salts and minerals but may not eliminate microorganisms or organic contaminants. Distilled Water is typically preferred for high-purity applications like pharmaceuticals and laboratories.
Atom Scientific produces a range of high quality water grades for a wide range of applications and industries, including industrial applications, laboratory applications, cleaning, rinsing, testing, ironing, automotive batteries and laser cutting.
