Cole's haematoxylin can be used as a progressive stain and also regressively as a routine stain similar to Ehrlich's haematoxylin with a staining time of about 10 minutes.
This haematoxylin contains iodine, which oxidizes haematoxylin to haematein making it possible for the solution to be used immediately.
