Last year, we organised a cake sale to raise funds and awareness for Mind Manchester, following a team vote to support this charity.
Since then, our team has been contributing to a weekly whiteboard of positive affirmations, with a different team member adding their quote each week and passing the baton to someone new.
Building on the success of our bake sale for Mind, we recognise that prioritising mental health has never been more crucial. That’s why we’ve signed the Mental Health at Work Commitment, joining over 3,000 UK employers in taking a meaningful step towards positive change.
The Mental Health at Work Commitment outlines six key standards, based on best practices, to help employees thrive:
Standard 1: Prioritise mental health in the workplace by developing and delivering a systematic programme of activity.
Standard 2: Proactively ensure work design and organisational culture drive positive mental health outcomes.
Standard 3: Promote an open culture around mental health.
Standard 4: Increase organisational confidence and capability.
Standard 5: Provide mental health tools and support.
Standard 6: Increase transparency and accountability through internal and external reporting.
We continue to collaborate with Mind Manchester to uphold best practices and foster a supportive workplace. Here are some of the initiatives we’ve implemented so far:
Each week, a different team member writes a positive quote on our whiteboard and nominates someone new to contribute the following week.
We hosted a small group session to highlight the importance of mental health in the workplace
We have assigned our first team of workplace ambassadors. Over the coming weeks, they will play a key role in:
These steps mark just the beginning of our commitment to an open workplace culture.
