Chlor Zinc Iodine (Schultze Solution)
A temporary stain containing a mixture of zinc dissolved in hydrochloric acid added to iodine dissolved in potassium iodide. It is used to detect the presence of cellulose in plant tissue, which it turns blue.
Zinc Chloride: <2%
Potassium Iodide: <1%
Hazard Phrazes: Harmful if swallowed. Causes severe skin burns and eye damage. May cause respiratory irritation. Very toxic to aquatic life. Very toxic to aquatic life with long lasting effects.
Prec Phrazes: Wear protective gloves/protective clothing/eye protection/face protection. Specific treatment (see IF SWALLOWED: Immediately call a POISON CENTER or doctor/physician. IF INHALED: Remove victim to fresh air and keep at rest in a position comfortable for breathing. IF IN EYES: Rinse cautiously with water for several minutes. Remove contact lenses, if present and easy to do. Continue rinsing. Call a POISON CENTER or doctor/physician if you feel unwell.
